A Mass Species Extinction Event is Happening Now!

Grasslands, including the Canadian Prairies,
are the world’s most Endangered Ecosystem.

Prairie Sky Saskatchewan

The loss and continued threats to temperate grasslands were recognized in 2008, when the International Union for the Conservation of Nature declared temperate grasslands as the world’s most endangered ecosystem.

Two years later, a paper published in the Journal of Ecological Letters about global habitat loss and conservation found that temperate grasslands had the highest conservation risk index compared to all other terrestrial ecosystems.

This high risk is a result of large-scale conversion of temperate grasslands and very few protected areas. A recent paper in the journal Science examined habitat types around the world, and temperate grassland was identified as the ecosystem with the greatest impacts and land use pressures.

More than 70 percent of Canada’s prairie grasslands has been converted. A 2010 report on the status and trends of Canada’s major habitat types found that our grasslands are the only major ecosystem type in our country that is impaired and continuing to decline.

The endangerment of grassland habitat in Canada has cascaded into the endangerment of many grassland species. More than 60 Canadian species at risk depend on this habitat, including species that symbolize our grasslands, such as plains bison, swift fox and greater sage grouse.

Here in Canada, we have opportunities to protect and restore habitats that are important for Canadians and important for the world.

Paradise was spread upon the Earth.

Our Natural Earthly Paradise has all but disappeared. Natural Places have been altered or destroyed by countless sprawling cities, industrialized agriculture, endless roads, millions of nonfarm country estates, millions of cottages along shorelines, resorts, over-population and excessive and unnecessary activity in wilderness areas. Will future generations experience the Beauty and Wonder of Nature?

A favorite tactic of many politicians, economists, talk show hosts and some of our peers is to promote their simple and destructive economic philosophies and then spread doom, gloom, fear and loathing if we don’t all conform.

Right now, self-serving developers and many elected and unelected officials are working hard to destroy the last remaining Natural areas near shorelines and in valleys in our communities, yet the majority of people want these areas preserved in their natural state.

So what will happen when all the land near shorelines is taken up with rows of houses? Will the economy end? No. Neither will it end if we preserve the last few natural areas near shorelines now as ecological reserves.

There are thousands of intelligent ways to contribute to the economy without selfishly destroying the last few fragments of Creation. In this day and age, land development in and around important natural places should END NOW!

We need to act now in a major way to Save the last few Natural Places, Animal Habitat, Species from Extinction, our Peaceful Community Way of Life and the Natural Heritage of Future Generations. Please tell your Municipal and Provincial representatives to stop approving destructive development projects in your area.

Nature is a big part of who we are as Canadians. We need to act now to preserve our Canadian Identity and our Beautiful Natural Country before it becomes like most other overdeveloped and overpopulated countries around the world.

Together, before it’s too late, we need to get back the Sacred Earth, protect Innocent Animals and preserve for future generations the Greatest Natural Treasure and Wonder in our Universe. . . The Natural Earth.

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.

Mahatma Gandhi

Killing of Animals for sport, for pleasure, for adventure... is a phenomenon which is at once disgusting and distressing. There is no justification in indulging in such acts of brutality.

The Dalai Lama

The question is not, "Can they reason?"
nor, "Can they talk?"
But rather "Can they suffer?"

Jeremy Bentham

When you feel the suffering of all living things, you have achieved full consciousness.

The Buddha

Love for all living things is the most noble attribute of man.

Charles Darwin

If a man aspires towards a righteous life, his first act of abstinence is from injury to Animals.

Albert Einstein

You cannot protect nature from fools.

John Muir

To disrespect Animals and the Earth is to heap contempt upon the creator. We do not inherit the earth, we borrow it from our children.

North American Indigenous People

The deeper minds of all ages have had pity for animals.

Friedrich Nietzsche

The reasons for legal intervention in favor of children apply not less strongly to the case of those unfortunate slave and victims of the most brutal part of mankind - the lower Animals.

John Stuart Mill

The Animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men.

Alice Walker

The kingdom of heaven is spread upon the Earth and men do not see it.

Animals

Animals are the Ultimate Wonders of the Universe comprised of the three main phenomena of Existence, Life and Consciousness.

Image

Animals are more than individual complex self-supporting metabolizing units, they are Conscious Beings.

Animals have Central and Peripheral Nervous Systems, Sensory apparatus and experience basic Conscious Awareness. Advanced Animals, such as mammals and birds are intelligent and emotional.

Vertebrates such as mammals, birds, reptiles and fish have 95% the same biological processes as us and advanced animals have 90% of the same basic conscious abilities as us. Animals are us.

Common sense, Comparative Anatomy, Biology, Paleontology, Neurology, Embryology, Genetics and other sciences prove that humans are Animals and that all Animals have a shared biological and Earthly ancestry. We are Cousins! Together all of our Animal ancestors struggled, mutated and evolved imperceptibly over millions of years to reach this point in time on Earth.

The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness: On this day of July 7, 2012, a prominent international group of cognitive neuroscientists, neuropharmacologists, neurophysiologist, neuroanatomists and computational neuroscientists gathered at The University of Cambridge to reassess the neurobiological substrates of conscious experience and related behaviors in human and non-human animals.

We declare the following: “The absence of a neocortex does not appear to preclude an organism from experiencing affective states. Convergent evidence indicates that non-human animals have the neuroanatomical, neurochemical and neurophysiological substrates of conscious states along with the capacity to exhibit intentional behaviors. Consequently, the weight of evidence indicates that humans are not unique in possessing the neurological substrates that generate consciousness. Non-human animals, including all mammals and birds, and many other creatures, including octopuses, also possess these neurological substrates.”

Like us, Animals feel. They feel pain, fear, thirst, desire, excitement and stress. So how is it that we humans cause and allow pain and suffering to animals, directly and indirectly, in factory farms, trapping, amateur hunting, unnecessary road kill, torture in laboratories and the destruction of their habitat? Complacency is complicity.

Over 100,000,000,000 Conscious, Cognizant, Sentient, Pain receptive, Fear and Stress responsive Animal Beings are hurt or killed each year around the world by humans.

The amount of pain, suffering, and stress that humans inflict on innocent and defenseless Animals around the world in one day exceeds in scale all the horror that was inflicted on humans during the six years of the Second World War.

All natural Animals have common and basic needs. Just like fish need water and birds need air, natural Animals need unhindered access to large and connected areas of the Sacred Earth, preserved in its Natural state, in order to find food, mate, raise their young and complete their very Essence of Being. Animals have the inherent right to live Naturally and Free.

Natural Places and Species are disappearing.

Please help preserve the beauty and wonder of Nature for your grandkids and future generations.

Please help to create Nature Sanctuaries for Animals so they can have homes, find food, raise their Families and live Free from human interference.

Our PURPOSEProtecting Nature & Animal Species

Preserving our one and only Beautiful and Sacred Natural Earth and Protecting Amazing and Innocent Natural Animals from suffering and extinction are our most important and urgent responsibilities and are the greatest gifts we can give to our children and to future generations.
